THE MANY LIVES
OF
THE CAPITOL THEATRE

Standing strong in crystalline beauty for ninety-nine years, The Capitol emerges again and again as “the best cinema that was ever built or ever likely to be built” (Robin Boyd).  Yet, beneath the iridescent lights and towering pillars, lies stories of triumph, loss and recovery that transcend far beyond the plaster and walls of this theatre. The Many Lives of The Capitol Theatre is a multi-modal journey that cements the ongoing importance of Melbourne’s most iconic theatre and uncovers the mysteries of its’ many lives.

We respectfully acknowledge The Wurundjeri and Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nations on whose stolen land we work. We extend this acknowledgement to all Traditional Owners of the lands and waters where our work reaches and pay our respects to Elders past and present. We recognise the rich and continuing history of storytelling that has continued to take place on this land.

Sovereignty was never ceded.  This always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
